The Tretyakov Gallery is the national museum of Russia, the largest collection of Russian art. Founded in 1856 by Moscow merchant and textile manufacturer Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov. In 1892, Tretyakov donated his collection (about 1,800 works) to the city of Moscow as a gift and the gallery became a city museum. Here are stored masterpieces created by more than a thousand-year existence of the Russian state. Currently, the collection has more than 100 thousand storage units.
